This test is designed to measure the function of your pelvis. In other words, how well it moves and how much spasm is in the muscles of your hips.

You can have spasm in your hip muscles without you even knowing it, and it can severely compromise your sports technique.

Simply cross one leg over the the other and rest the ankle on the opposite knee. Check how far your knee drops towards the floor.

Compare the two sides.

They should be symmetrical. If they are not then its important that you follow the recommendations to reduce the risk of injuries we've warned about and possibly more.

If your pelvis doesn’t work properly, you have an increased risk of a leg length discrepancy (one leg being longer than the other) which causes a misalignment of the leg and pelvis, it causes more pressure on the foot and knee when you run and in throwing and hitting events it makes it very difficult to time your movements well.

This leads to:

1. Poor timing in the hitting or throwing events as it makes it very hard to release the hips, spine and throwing arm in synchrony, which is critical to hit or throw with any power and with any accuracy

2. Less power through the legs in sports where leg power is critical from the muscles being inhibited due to poor pelvis positioning and also from the pressure this puts on your sciatic nerves (and others).

3. An increased risk of shoulder and upper back injuries as any misalignment of the pelvis will be compensated for in the shoulders and upper back.

4. An increased risk of back and leg injuries due to the compensations that take place to cater for the lack of mobility and natural function of your pelvis.
